The beautiful town of Creston in southeastern B.C. is an epicentre for endless motorized recreation, and the Creston Valley Quad Squad has a welcoming attitude. Mike Arlt has been the president of this club—which holds membership in ATV/BC—for the past two years.

“We frequently take new riders out with our group,” Arlt said, “helping them to gain an understanding of their machines and the areas we ride.”

The 50 members of the Creston Valley Quad Squad use not only traditional ATVs but also side-by-sides and dirt bikes to explore the numerous backroads and trails in the Creston Valley.

One of the favourite group outings is a potluck lunch after a ride up the Kootenay Pass between Salmo and Creston to beautiful Boundary Lake; another ride is to go high above on the Iron Range located up the Goat River Canyon. No matter what the destination is, the food is phenomenal—everything from chili to chicken wings and cake to pizza.

Helping others

The Quad Squad has a deep tradition of giving back to the community. The group facilitates the clearing and maintaining of trails for many user groups, and also raises money for local charities. For example, three fire departments in the area were supplied with pet oxygen masks from the fundraising efforts of this hard-working group.

One thing is clear: the Creston Valley Quad Squad is taking steps in the right direction to preserve, protect and grow the sport of ATVing in its community. Club involvement provides not only a wonderful group of people to ride with but also a voice with power to represent motorized recreation in a positive light.
