Club takes initiative in bridge project
Powell River ATV Club shows how it’s done—throws in picnic site for good measure
The Powell River ATV Club was busy with an important bridge building project in 2007.
This bridge was required to complete a loop that would join two road systems the club uses frequently.

However, it was a delicate procedure as the creek is an important spawning site.
This bridge therefore presented the challenge of having to be built without affecting the creek's riparian area. After consultation with affected groups, the bridge was built well above ground and caused no ground disturbance that would affect the creek’s spawning grounds.
The bridge is a total of 140 feet and consists of four spans.
It was built by Powell River ATV Club’s “Wednesday trail building crew.”
To complete this bridge took five days of intensive labour.
A picnic site was also set up so everyone can enjoy watching the fish spawning in this area.
Without the use of quads for hauling logs, rocks and lumber, this project would have been even more difficult to finish.
With the dedication of our trail troop, we have added additional loops over this past winter. As our club now has more than 130 members, the number of volunteer builders has also grown.
Powell River ATV Club obtained the material for the bridge through donations, scrounging and purchasing.
To raise the necessary funds, club members have also held bottle drives and 50/50 draws.
It’s just another example of club initiative to gain access to riding areas in a manner that is responsible and environmentally sensitive.
The Powell River ATV Club continues to take great pride in trying to keep the outdoors environmentally safe and has, over the past few years, removed more than three tonnes of garbage that was illegally dumped.
