With all the attention on Yamaha’s new three-seater Viking side-by-side, it’s easy to overlook the company’s Grizzly 700 FI ATV. For 2014, this much-loved machine received some significant upgrades. At first glance, it looks exactly the same as last year’s model—but don’t let that fool you, because underneath it all is Yamaha’s most advanced 700-class engine ever.

The 2014 Grizzly 700 FI boasts a redesigned combustion chamber, a new cylinder head, enhanced engine settings, a redesigned exhaust and a modified piston to provide a higher compression ratio, resulting in overall improved power and a 30 per cent gain in fuel efficiency.

The 2014 Grizzly 700 also saw some improvements on the suspension side of things. Yamaha gave it a wider stance and with that comes a class-leading 10.8 inches of ground clearance. Yamaha also modified the steering geometry to give the Grizzly 700 FI an “overall lighter feeling even on models with no electric power steering.”

No electric power steering on the Grizzly 700? That’s only on the base model. There are four versions of the 2014 Grizzly 700 to choose from and three of them come with Yamaha’s electric power steering, which has been improved as well.
