Cory Derpak on a 2016 Husqvarna Factory FE 350 in Whistler, B.C. — Matthew Mallory Photography

The photo of our current cover athlete, Cory Derpak, was taken by Matthew Mallory.

Experienced with a camera and a whiz with the words, Mallory is a well respected photographer and journalist living in Whistler, B.C. He is a familiar face at RidersWest and SnoRiders, having contributed to our publication several times. His work has also appeared in Our Canada, Pinkbike and Mountain Sledder.

These days, however, Mallory puts more of his writing and editing skills to work on Joydigger—a website he created that covers the freeride snowmobiling scene in B.C. and beyond. Of course, he’s out nearly every weekend (and then some!), capturing local athletes and tearing up the deep Whistler snowpack on his Summit XM 154. In the summer, Mallory rips single-track on his mountain bike and tackles the backcountry on his trials motorcycle.

The day our cover photo was taken, Mallory was shooting in just about the worst of conditions—rain, flat light and grey skies—but he still managed to capture this awesome photo of Derpak on a 2016 Husqvarna Factory FE 350. Look for it on the front cover of the spring 2016 edition of RidersWest. Also, be sure to check out the full story on Derpak, who is a factory-supported Husqvarna and Yeti Snow MX rider.
