Let the games begin
The Alberni Motocross Association is hosting the B.C. provincials
Dirt riders in the Cherry Creek district can expect great things from the Alberni Motocross Association this season. According to Jason Samson, webmaster and promotions/advertising person for the club, the opportunity to host the provincial championship races on July 4 to 6 has provided a big boost to the club.

“It has given us a goal, helping us to make changes to our track and to our methods in order to make sure each and every person, whether spectating or participating, leaves AVMX with a smile,” said Samson. “We are definitely picking it up a notch this season.”
In 2007, the Alberni Motocross Association had more than 300 members; with the extra promotion of hosting the provincials, Samson said the numbers will definitely go up this year.
The club’s track, which is certified by the Canadian Motosport Racing Club (CMRC), is located at Cherry Creek, a suburb of Port Alberni. Although the club got a slow start to the season—due to excessive rain—Samson said racing has been underway since April 13.
As a non-profit organization, the Alberni Motocross Association is run by volunteers and each one of them, including Samson, love the sport for the enjoyment it brings them.
“You can be four years old—or four-years-old at heart—and you can ride a motorbike and be the best you can be,” said Samson. “It gives you a feeling of accomplishment. Four year olds can’t drive NASCAR or monster trucks but they can make those little 50-cc bikes do some amazing things.”
