The final round of the Monster Energy Supercross series, which is an FIM World Championship race, took place at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 4, 2013. A crowd of nearly 40,000 spectators converged on the stadium to watch big-name riders like Ryan Dungey, Davi Millsaps, Ryan Villopoto, Chad Reed and Justin Barcia go head to head in the elite 450SX class. In the end, it was the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto who lead the class to victory—securing his third consecutive AMA World Championship title.
In a recent Supercross Media press release, Villopoto said, “This is a great way to cap the season off. We rebounded this year from a bad start at the season opener and won the title. There is no better way to end a season than like this.”
GEICO Honda rider Wil Hahn of Decatur, Texas, and Red Bull KTM rider Ken Roczen of Germany were also in the spotlight. Hahn won his first Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship and Roczen won his first Western Regional 250X Championship.
Canada also had some representation at the Monster Energy Supercross final in the form of Brigden, Ontario, rider Cole Thompson. Thompson ended up with an eighth place finish in the Eastern Regional 250X Class in Las Vegas. He is currently sitting in sixth place in the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Standings.
