Book review: Who Is the Real Hog?

by

Working for the Harley-Davidson Motor Company might seem like a dream job, but for Robert Scot Michel, it’s just another day at the office.

A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Michel has spent 29 years in the industry. Going from a parts and accessories rep to a district sales manager to the owner of a Harley dealership in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Michel has had his fair share of ups and downs. He’s seen and done a lot too—what with all the dealer meetings, motorcycle shows and international bike trips he’s been on.

Michel’s book, Who Is the Real Hog?, takes readers on a rare, behind-the-scenes tour of Harley-Davidson. It’s not the kind of tour, though, that you’d want your 14-year-old son to take. The book, which is based on Michel’s personal experiences, is raw, honest and, at times, a little rude. Michel tells it like it is, though, revealing the pitfalls and perks of working in the motorcycle industry.

“It’s an insider’s look at a revered brand that is rarely examined,” said Michel in the press release for his book. “Being a part of Harley-Davidson opened a lot of doors for me—many to the bedroom.”

Michel’s voice comes through strong and clear. His writing is direct—after reading Who is the Real Hog?, it’s easy to imagine sitting down with the author over beers and listening as he reminisces about his life as a Harley-Davidson enthusiast and employee of the motor company.

Who Is the Real Hog? is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Author House
