Bigger isn’t always better, and Honda’s 2015 Pioneer 500 is here to prove it.
Built on a smaller version of the Pioneer 700 frame, the 2015 Pioneer 500 is a sporty little machine designed for two people. At only 50 inches wide and 72.4 inches high, it comes ready for those trails where bigger machines simply cannot go—or may not be allowed, due to trail restrictions.
Narrower means it’s easier to transport as well. At 50 inches, the 2015 Pioneer 500 should fit without any problem in the back of most pickups.
The 2015 Pioneer 500 is powered by a 475 cc four-stroke engine, and according to Honda, this high-torque power plant produces more than enough ponies to get riders from point A to point B in a hurry. And the driver can have lots of fun with the paddle shifters along the way—wait, paddle shifters? Like on a sports car?
Yep, the 2015 Pioneer 500 comes with a five-speed, semi-automatic gearbox with reverse, operated by paddle shifters on the steering column. Fun. We think it would be.
Another innovative feature is the doors on the 2015 Pioneer 500. They’re set up so that the doors and nets open and close together as one unit. Very thoughtful, Honda!
Don’t be fooled, though, the 2015 Pioneer 500 isn’t just for play. Behind the seats, where a cargo box is usually located, is an ATV-style back rack that is capable of hauling up to 447 pounds. The vehicle can also tow up to 992 pounds.
What it all adds up to is an affordable two-seater for those who want to keep it simple and have fun.
