SPOT Satellite GPS provides a lifeline when you need it most

by Jessica Kirby

When you’re heading through the trees or into the mountains, anything can happen. In those rare but crucial moments the SPOT satellite GPS will connect you to friends, family, or emergency services quickly and reliably--and in areas where cell phones won’t.

SPOT works anywhere in the world using 100 per cent satellite technology. The track function allows you to send and save your location, enabling predetermined contacts to track your progress in near real time using Google Maps.

In the event of a non-life-threatening emergency, the help function notifies your personal contacts that you need a hand, while check-in lets everyone know you made it home safe and sound.

In a worst-case scenario, one touch of a button can alert emergency services and up to ten predetermined text message recipients.

The device has an operating temperature of -30 C to 60 C (-22 F to 140 F) and will work flawlessly with a view to the sky in altitude ranging from minus 100 metres to 6,500 metres (minus 328 feet to 21,320 feet).
