Securing your ATV or UTV to your trailer should be easy, right? That's what we think, but more often than not, we find ourselves fumbling around with traditional tie-down straps and then after a few uses, the straps usually get frayed, scratch our machines and eventually come apart altogether. Who wants to spend 15 minutes tying toys down and then worry they'll go flying off the trailer? Certainly not us, and apparently we aren't the only ones.
Bowdriks Industries, the makers of the industry-leading SuperClamp tie-down system for snowmobiles, recently came out with a new tie-down system for ATVs, UTVs and Argos that makes securing your machines a snap. Instead of anchoring the machine by its suspension, the new SuperChocks and Rear Clamps secure it by all four wheels. On the front chocks, there are raised inside and outside tire guides and a grab bar, which adjusts to the height of your machine's tires. The Rear Clamps have an adjustable bar as well with tire grip strips on it. Together, this system allows your machine to float over bumps so that the clamps won't loosen or come undone. The front chocks are made of composite materials and are designed to last the lifetime of your machine.
RidersWest has been testing out this new system on our ATV trailer, and we’ve been pleased with the results. Although installation on the trailer was a little tricky at first, the SuperChocks and Rear Clamps are simple for everyday use. They make loading and unloading a breeze—just drive on, clamp down and away you go. The chocks and rear clamps are removable from the mounting plate as well so you’re not limited to hauling one type of toy. Yeah, they cost more than tie-down straps but it's a worthwhile investment, considering how many dollars we spend on replacing frayed or lost tie-downs each year. And when we're talking $10,000 to $15,000 toys, we want them to stay safe and secure.
