If you own a motorcycle for any length of time, chances are one day you will be replacing the OEM battery with an aftermarket one. With so many different battery brands on the market, it may be hard to choose the right one.
A name that is fairly new in North America is VARTA.
VARTA, which is owned by Johnson Controls in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has actually been around for years. It’s a trusted name in Europe, though, and VARTA products weren’t available in North America until October 2013.
What sets VARTA batteries apart is that they utilize advanced Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) technology. AGM was originally developed in the ‘80s for use in military aircraft. Since then, this technology has made its way into the powersports and automotive industries as well.
AGM batteries differ from traditional lead-acid batteries in that they have a special absorbent glass mat that soaks up the acid. This means they are completely spill-proof and thus can be installed at any angle. VARTA also says that its AGM Powersports batteries won’t lose performance when they are charged and recharged repeatedly. Plus, they are also designed to perform well in extreme temperatures and are maintenance free.
VARTA AGM Powersports batteries come ready to install, right out of the box, so there is no need to measure and pour battery acid into them, or even charge them. It’s just buy, install and away you go.
And motorcyclists aren’t the only ones who can take advantage of AGM technology. VARTA AGM Powersports batteries are available for ATVs, UTVs, PWCs, snowmobiles and scooters too.
