The eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains provided a beautiful venue for the Wildhorse Harescrambles in Sundre, Alberta, on July 21 and 22, 2012. A 10-kilometre course of wet, slippery roots and stump-infested clearcuts challenged riders to keep themselves on two wheels.
Cole Dobovich from Provost, Alberta, holeshot the pro class start leading into the first lap, while Corner Grass Racing Team (CGRT) veteran rider, Shane Cuthbertson, missed the kickstart lever on his bike and was dead last. Once settling down from the mistake on the start, Cuthbertson charged his way past the pack, taking the lead by the end of the first lap. Cuthberton pushed hard, posting lap times one minute faster than second-place finisher Ty McKenna (KTM, A&E Racing and Marine).
After two hours of pushing, Cuthbertson topped the field, followed by McKenna and Dobovich on the final podium position.
“A great effort by Shane—he’s been riding very well this season, and really liking the TE 300,” said CGRT manager Lee Fryberger. “And I’m very happy to see the young guys on the podium, learning from the veterans like Shane and applying those skills to their own racing.”
The junior member of the team, Dobovich, had this to say: “I felt a little uncomfortable with the loose logs in the clearcut, but it’s something I’ve got to work with and get more confident in so I can push harder. Otherwise, my bike worked well, especially my suspension. (I am) very happy with Pro-Action suspension.”
