The second round of the Royal Distributing Canadian Cross Country Series was hosted by the Lethbridge Motorcycle Club in a historic location of the Porcupine Hills, Alberta. The foothills of the Rocky Mountain area provides an epic balance of elevation change and smooth, flowing trails.
Vernon, B.C.’s Victoria Hett rode her Valley Motosports TE 250 to a sixth-place Intermediate. This class in Alberta is a class below Pro, where in B.C. she competes in the Intermediate Class 2 levels below Pro. Given a course that is much faster than her typical riding areas and heavier competition, Corner Grass Racing Team (CGRT) is pleased with her finish.
Once again, the Pro class was stacked with 17 of Canada’s finest riders. The course conditions definitely separated the riders who can do well in their comfort zone from those who simply know how to be the best. Airdrie, Alberta’s Shane Cuthbertson had a great fourth-place start on his A&E Racing-backed TE 300 and pushed his way into third position for the first two laps of the five-lap event. Cuthbertson rode strong the entire race, keeping pace with the leaders—however, a malfunctioning quick-fill jug cost him valuable seconds in the pits and allowed another rider and Kitimat, B.C., resident, CGRT teammate Ben Rego, to pass him. Cuthbertson finished in fifth position.
Rego had a poor start and rode hard to move his A&E Racing-supported TE 300 towards the front and a final fourth position. Claiming to have crashed a number of times and happy to be safe and sound, Rego was pleased with his finish.
Ryan Linderman of Hillcrest Mines, Alberta, finished a creditable seventh position in the Pro class. Crossing the finish line seconds behind sixth place and a few minutes behind veteran rider Cuthbertson, Linderman had a breakout ride, proving he has speed and endurance during a three-hour event.
CGRT’s next event is June 30 at the Monkey Wrench Cross Country race near Lytton, B.C. Follow Victoria Hett, Shane Cuthbertson, Ben Rego and Lee Fryberger on Twitter and on Facebook.
