Round 1 of the Pacific Northwest Motorcycle Association (PNWMA) was the Katoom, near Campbell River on Vancouver Island, B.C. After pulling the holeshot, Hett rode clean for over four hours to finish second out of 23 riders in the Intermediate class.
“The Berg worked perfectly!! I kept it smooth and fast in the trees and had no major accidents," said an elated Hett following the first race of the season.
Round 2, the following day, was a tight, gnarly and predominantly single-track event, aptly named "Roots of Doom" near Qualicum, B.C. Once again, Hett nailed the holeshot in the Intermediate class with her TE 250. But her luck was soon to turn, as a navigational error sent Hett off the course, allowing the pack of 20 riders to pass her.
Pushing through what she knew would be a long, gruelling event of slippery roots, Hett’s strategy was to outlast the rest of the racers. After 85 kilometres and four hours of racing, she had pushed her way into a hard-earned third-place finish.
Hett will be racing the Stump Jumpers Motorcycle Club’s Desert 100 near Odessa, Washington, this coming weekend, April 7.
