One week until women motorcycle enthusiasts populate the planet’s roads

“We have a very real global phenomenon going on,” said Vicki Gray, founder of International Female Ride Day© and Motoress. “Women will take their motorcycles and scooters to “just ride”—representing the passion they have for motorcycling. It is an important event for women motorcyclists and one which has no other counterpart—in the world.”

Occurring each year on the first Friday in May, International Female Ride Day© (IFRD) was created to promote and highlight the countless numbers of women motorcycle riders around the world.

“The Fédération Internationale du Motocyclisme (FIM) and its women's commission is impressed by the amazing development of IFRD throughout many countries in the world," said Brigitte Zufferey, coordinator for The Commission for Women in Motorcycling (CFM) at the FIM. "It is uplifting and extremely motivating to see that more and more women are taking an active part in all related motorcycling activities. The FIM Women in Motorcycling Commission is more determined than ever to bring its contribution to this event and wishes a great success to the 6th edition."

International Female Ride Day© makes one simple request of women “just ride. Scooter, sport-bike, cruiser, dual-purpose – on road, off-road, track—all ages and all forms are invited. The concept has assembled its power and participation in its simple worldwide-synchronized theme creating a universal chain of women riders in the shared activity of motorcycling. International Female Ride Day© has the full support of the motorcycling industry’s key brands, manufacturers and motorsport federations/associations including Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) based in Switzerland.

For the 2012 edition, a photo contest will run utilizing the social networking platform Facebook. A winner will be decided based on the highest number of like votes. In addition, there will be another award of honour in recognition for the best woman rider activity by either a group or individual. The recipient(s) of this award will receive permanent recognition on the Motoress® website within a designated area. This will be an annual award. Full details will be published shortly within the International Female Ride Day© section on Motoress.com.

International Female Ride Day© is supported by BMW Motorrad; Harley-Davidson; Honda; Kawasaki; KYMCO Canada; Suzuki; Yamaha; ARAI; Association des femmes motocyclistes du Québec (AFMQ); CanadianBiker; Canadian Motorcycle Association (CMA); Canada Safety Council (CSC); Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM); Motorcycle Mojo; RidersPlus Insurance; and Ride for Sight.
