The Vancouver Island Motocross Association’s (VIMX) fall club series kicked off on September 9, 2012, in Nanaimo, B.C.
Daniel Vanderbasch of Victoria, B.C., finished the day in first place overall in the MX2 Intermediate class while Ana Jellema from Nanaimo, B.C., took home third place overall in the Ladies Class. Earlier this year, Jellema placed second overall in the Vancouver Island Spring Series—and this only her first year of racing.
There was some head-to-head racing action in the Over 35 class between Paul Gallagher from Victoria and Dwayne Richmond of Port Alberni.
“These two were all-out racing from the drop of the gate,” said Ed Masters, who attended the event. “That was till Richmond overtook Gallagher and then a short time later crashed hard. Gallagher stopped and threw his bike down and ran to him.”
Masters said Richmond sustained some injuries from the fall, but he returned later in the day to race again.
“(It was) a great show of sportsmanship,” said Masters. “Not many riders would do that.”
A battle also took place in the 85-cc class between David Bradley of Saltspring Island, B.C., and Steven McDonald from Victoria. After going bar-to-bar with each other, Bradley finally overtook McDonald and ended the day in third place overall.
