The fifth and final round of the CMA Alberta Harescramble Championship was held September 14 and 15, 2013, in the rugged Rocky Mountain range known as Ya-Ha Tinda.
Shane Cuthbertson was on hand looking to secure the Pro Championship and that is exactly what he did. Taking his fifth consecutive overall win, the “Moose” was on top form, enjoying the technical course and perfect weather conditions.
“I was extremely focused on putting my best effort forth today to further increase my confidence ahead of my participation in the ISDE in a few weeks,” said Cuthbertson. “This is my eighth regional championship, which brings me great satisfaction as I am currently riding better than ever, all the while being able to really enjoy the experience with my young family.”
Speaking of his family, both the Cuthbertson boys are following in their father's footsteps by competing in the Second Gear Club series, which follow the previous day adult competitions. On Sunday, seven-year-old Kale took a win in front of 20 other little rippers and secured his class championship! Ten-year-old Chase also raced, taking third on the day, but more importantly secured enough points to take his class championship!
“The Second Gear Club series is a great family-orientated series and the kids events are excellent,” said Cuthbertson. “I am really stoked that it exists and allows us the opportunity to experience this great sport together as a family."
During the weekend’s events, a surprise ISDE fundraising effort was initiated by Darin Bullivant of Dare To Dream Extreme Adventure and the Dream It Race Team (D.I.R.T). The challenge was that for every dollar donated, his organization would match that contribution! After an incredibly generous response by those in attendance, $2,000 was raised to support Second Gear Club members Shane Cuthbertson’s and Lexi Pechout’s ISDE effort! The Corner Grass Racing Team (CGRT) would like to thank all those who have helped with fundraising efforts and for the words of encouragement regarding this year’s ISDE competition.
