Each week, the Calgary CTV News channel selects a different athlete to be highlighted on its Athlete of the Week feature. For the week of June 20, 2014, it was endurocross rider Shelby Turner.
The 18-year-old from Barons, Alberta, competes in the Geico AMA Endurocross Series, and so far, she’s done quite well in her racing career.
This year, Turner kicked off her 2014 season with a second-place overall finish at the Las Vegas endurocross in May. Earlier on in the season, she managed a fifth-place overall finish at the Austin X Games Endurocross in Texas. Turner is currently ninth in the Women’s AMA endurocross standings.
One of her biggest achievements, though, has probably been bringing home a gold medal in the Women’s Trophy Team class at the 2013 International Six Days of Enduro (see Post ISDE with Shelby Turner).
This rising star of endurocross has again been invited to represent the Women’s Trophy Team for Team Canada at this year’s ISDE in November. She will be joined by Felicia Robichaud from Cornwall, Ontario, and Victoria Hett from Vernon, B.C.
The Calgary CTV News channel’s Athlete of the Week is based upon nominations received throughout the week. The winner is then revealed on the CTV News on Fridays.
