World supercross champion Ryan Villopoto has been nominated for an Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) award in the Best Male Action Sports Athlete category.
It’s him against snocross superstar Tucker Hibbert, big wave surfer Grant Baker, freestyle skier David Wise and professional skateboarder Nyjah Huston. This won’t be the first time Villopoto has been nominated for the Best Male Action Sports Athlete award, but it will be his first if he wins it.
Villopoto’s no stranger to winning. The Poulsbo, Washington, native has been the one to watch ever since he first stepped on to the motocross scene in 2003. Backed by Monster Energy and Kawasaki’s Team Green, Villopoto’s been able to secure four AMA World Supercross Championships and three AMA Pro Motocross Championships in his racing career. He’s also the only rider in the history of the sport to ever clinch a title four races early.
With a career like his, it’s no wonder Villopoto was nominated again for a Best Male Action Sports Athlete award. He’s up against some stiff competition, though, so if you want him to win, vote now.
The voting ends on July 16, 2014, and the winner will be announced live on ESPN that same day.
