Based in one of Canada’s hubs of oil production, the McMurray Dirt Riders Association motocross track south of the successful urban service area is booming.

According to McMurray Dirt Riders Association MX Club vice president Jeff Nagy, the club undertook a major redesign of the approximately two-kilometre-long natural terrain track in 2012, adding signature features that make the track a must-ride.

“There was a major redesign for 2012,” said Nagy, “including a new rhythm section, water system improvements and terrain features such as a large uphill jump, several large doubles, an extra-large table top into a sharp right-hand 180, large rhythm rollers and several elevation changes. And there will be a 50 cc pee wee track new for 2013.”

Club president John Kuerbis added that the club will be introducing a new feature this season: a pro class with cash payouts for club races.

“We want the top riders of the province to come out and enjoy what we have to offer and make sure they are properly recognized for their efforts,” said Kuerbis.

Kuerbis said that 2013 rates at the track are $250 for a single membership or $400 for a family membership, and can be purchased from local bike shops: Four Seasons, Raven and MXC. He said members receive a key to the locked gate for full-time access from 8:00 a.m. to dusk for the entire season.

“We are holding a public open house on June 15,” he added.

ADRA Provincial Series in Fort McMurray and Edmonton

If you missed round one of the ADRA/CMRC Provincial MX Series at the McMurray Dirt Riders Association MX track on May 25 and 26, mark your calendars for the ADRA Provincial Series Round 4 Race and the 2013 CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton on June 22 and 23.

According to ADRA president Randy Tally, the modified provincial series race takes place the day before their annual western pro national day, the 2013 CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals, and provides “a real advantage for intermediates trying to compete in the pro class.

“It attracts a lot of riders and thousands of spectators,” said Tally. “We have beginner, junior, intermediate and pro riders, and the pros aren’t allowed to ride 72 hours before their Sunday national race, so they can’t ride on the Saturday provincial day, but everybody else can ride. It’s really good for intermediates because they’re allowed to ride the amateur day, get to learn the track a little bit, and they can also try and qualify in the pro small bike class on the Sunday. They get to ride a pro national track built for more advanced riders.

“The reason we do it is so intermediate riders have the opportunity to ride that caliber of a race,” he said.

Tally said the cost of registration is $35 per class and that riders can register at the track the evening before the event or on the morning of the event before 8:00 a.m.

“Anyone who holds a CMRC license is eligible to come and race it,” he said.
