We are very fortunate to live in Comox Valley and take full advantage of the many gorgeous places where we have the opportunity to ride our ATVs. The Kodiak 450 is popular with us girls. It's easy to handle, just enough power to get us though the tight spots and seems we can get anywhere we desire.Yamaha has never let us down.
Sure we like to hike and bike, but quadding is certainly our favourite sport. Our summers are spent riding to Comox Lake and hanging out at Whytes Bay which is a historic mining site on the outskirts of the Village of Cumberland. The beach is covered in coal and no fires are permitted for obvious reasons. The water is the colour of Bombay gin. I like to think so, anyway.
I have the privilege of being able to ride straight out of my driveway, up a pipeline, to see Comox Glacier staring at me the distance of the pipeline and then I can be sitting at the Lake within 20 minutes. This is what I like about quadding; I like a lot of things about quadding, actually. I like hotdogs, fires, friends, pets, dependable clothing, chainsaws, heated grips, spare socks, spark plugs, my iPod, $19.98 ihome speakers and food. I get hungry when we are out riding.
We've ridden from the Valley to Port Alberni then to Coombs Country Candy Store for ice cream. The trails are endless there as well. We feel lucky to have such a huge variety of quadding locations nearby.
We stop riding when the snow stops us in our tracks, but it's almost a year-round sport for us. Our favourite spot on the lake was the "hotdog stand." Lots of time spent here. Our friend painted a picture of it, which you can view at the Bev Byerley Artworks website, under West Coast Gallery. The hotdog stand painting is titled Comox Lake #2.
Another spectacular view was looking down at the Cruikshank River at 1,800 metres. You can also find that painting under West Coast Gallery titled Cruikshank #2 on her site. I love her work and of course I love riding my quad.
Up in the far-away hills in the Beaufort Range we heard a rumble, and then a tremendous boom! This is our sign that they have blasted another route for us to view our beautiful Comox Valley. Girls just want to have fun. Happy riding, everyone.
