There are lakes aplenty in northern Saskatchewan, and the region is known for its superior fishing opportunities. Daryl Brandrick, who is president of the Northern Trails A.T.V. Club based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, said this part of the province is excellent for ATVing as well.
His favourite areas to ride are around Emma Lake, Candle Lake and Lower Fishing Lake, and he said all of these places have everything from deep, hard-core mud riding to family ATVing opportunities.
“There are thousands of miles of trails up there,” he said.
Other trails that are suitable for family riding can be found in the Nisbet Forest. Brandrick said this area is located between Saskatoon and Prince Albert and that he usually chooses to ride in the Nisbet Forest when he goes ATVing with his kids, who are seven.
Formed in January 2012, the Northern Trails A.T.V. Club has approximately 50 members, who are from Saskatoon as well as the Lakeland area and northeastern Saskatchewan. The club was started to provide a voice for ATVers in northern Saskatchewan and to promote and maintain ATV trails in the region. Brandrick said that ATVers who are interested in learning more about joining an organized ride or attending a local ATV derby should visit the Saskatchewan Hardcore ATV website or the Northern Trails A.T.V. Club website.
