The month of June brought some good rainfall to Alberta, and Michiel van der Hoeven was lucky enough to have some fun in it. This was the photo he sent us that won our May/June 2014 Hotshot contest. It was taken on the trails near Nordegg, Alberta.
Van der Hoeven, who is from Edmonton, Alberta, was the lucky winner of a Spot Trace Anti-Theft Tracking Device.
Our Hotshot contest continues for the month of July, and we’ve got another great prize to give away. To enter, see the contest page.
But first, here’s our Q&A with van der Hoeven:
How long have you been an ATVer?
I have been an active ATVer for about four years now. Before I got motorized (getting older now), I used to ride a mountain bike in a club.
What’s your favourite kind of riding?
I like to ride the more technical, gnarly trails with an enthusiastic fast riding pace.
What is your current machine?
My ATV is a 2005 Yamaha Grizzly 660. It’s an awesome machine made for the better trails.
Are you part of an ATV club?
Yes, I am a proud premium member of the Outlaw ATV Club.
Tell us a little bit about the day you took this photo.
My buddy, Dave, and I were riding the trails in Nordegg, Alberta, and I took this shot with a GoPro Hero 2, trying to catch up to my buddy Dave (who was driving a Grizzly 700) and I was going through muddy water pits and it made this awesome mud moment.
Best riding area in Western Canada?
The best riding in Alberta, for me now, is the Cadomin area. Lots and lots of fun trails there.
What does the sport mean to you?
I love the ATV sport and the outdoor life, and soon more (female) family members will join the ATV scene with more Grizzlys. I love to tool on my quad and modify the quad for a better drive.
