Imagine roads that snake through lush forest; trails that wind their way to the top of mountains; and lakes so clear you can see right to the bottom. This is British Columbia, a haven for motorsport enthusiasts who love nature and its many wonders.
Below is just a sampling of things to see and do in Canada’s most western province this summer:
1. 7th Annual Cumberland Motorcycle Roundup
Fire up the bike and head to scenic Vancouver Island where the small community of Cumberland puts on an annual motorcycle roundup. Around 7,000 people and about 2,200 bikes usually show up for this. Activities this year include a poker run, show and shine, live music, biker games, a burnout pit, stunt riding and more. August 7, 8 and 9, 2015, are the dates and for more information, see the website.

2. ATV/BC Poker Ride
This annual event that is organized by the Quad Riders Association of B.C. (ATV/BC) draws ATVers from all corners of the province. This year, it will take place in the community of Clearwater, which is located about an hour north of Kamloops. Guided rides, camping and a first place cash prize of $3,000 will be featured. Popkum Motor Park in Rosedale (which is about 15 minutes outside of Chilliwack) is a well-equipped ORV facility with tracks and trails for dirt riders of all ages and skill levels. There are bike rentals, gear rentals, lessons and a mechanic shop. Plus, Popkum Motor Park has just completed a side-by-side and ATV track. It is located across the highway from the main motocross track. More details can be found on the park’s website.

Shuswap Lake is a popular destination for watercraft enthusiasts. With more than 1,000 kilometres of shoreline and islands to explore, is it great for touring on a Sea-Doo or a houseboat. Its warm water also makes for excellent swimming opportunities and communities throughout the area play host to big events, such as the Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival and the Falkland Stampede.
