Lucia Pastorekova (also known as @whistler_motogirl on Instagram) didn’t grow up in motorsports—but once she discovered the thrill of motocross and snowbiking, she was hooked. In just four years, she has gone from riding an old, undersized bike to confidently tackling jumps and corners on her YZ250F. When winter rolls in, she swaps out dirt for snow, riding her Honda 450 with a Yeti Snow MX kit. For her, the two sports are the perfect seasonal complement.

Based in Whistler, B.C., Pastorekova is part of a tight-knit motorsports community that hones its skills at the Green River MX track in Pemberton. While injuries have posed setbacks, she remains determined to push her limits. Whether she’s lining up for Future West Moto races or simply enjoying the ride, her passion for the sport is undeniable.

How long have you been involved in motorsports, and what types of riding do you do?

I got into motorsports about four years ago. I started on the track with a Honda CRF150R (which was way too old and too small for me). Not long after, I upgraded to a YZ125, and then my all-time favorite bike became the YZ250F.

For me, motocross seamlessly transitions into winter, as I ride snowbikes during the colder months on my Honda 450, equipped with a Yeti Snow MX kit. I love how these two sports complement each other. It’s the perfect combo.

What is your favourite part of hitting the track?

I love hitting the corners as fast as I can, and of course, hitting the jumps is always so much fun!

What do you like about the Whistler community when it comes to motorsports?

I think our community is small but mighty. We're fortunate to have the Green River MX track in Pemberton. Many of us have known each other for years, and we consistently support one another. It’s inspiring to watch fellow riders progress, and we celebrate each other's little victories on the track.

Do you compete in any events?

So far, I’ve raced at Future West Moto in Pemberton. Two years ago, I had a significant crash during a practice session that sidelined me for four months. Last season was about regaining my confidence and mastering the jumps. I planned to race a couple more rounds of Future West, but then I refractured my collarbone, so I decided to just enjoy riding different tracks without the pressure for the rest of the season.

What has been your most memorable experience of riding?

I will never forget how stoked I was when I cleared our local track for the first time. It’s also amazing to see how much progress I’ve made in just four years. It’s great to keep old footage on my phone to look back and see how much I’ve improved. I also remember how scared I was just to roll the big step-up at Popkum. Two and a half years later, I was checking the lines to figure out how to hit it!

What has been your biggest obstacle?

Injuries have been my biggest challenge. They can be major setbacks for both confidence and progress, and they certainly humble you. But it’s part of the sport, and we have to be grateful for the chance to get back on the bike.

What advice would you give other young women who want to get into motorsports?

Absolutely go for it! I recommend learning the basic riding positions and either hiring a coach or watching resources like MX Factory and Moto Academy on IG. There’s a wealth of great advice out there. Once you establish a solid foundation, you’ll see improvement with each ride.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I’m really happy to share my experiences. I hope this mini-interview inspires more people to get excited and curious about this sport!
