The Canadian Enduro Championship resumed this past weekend with rounds 5 and 6 held in Labelle, Quebec. The scenery and terrain for these rounds would prove to be much different from the mountainous trails found in the first four rounds. Racers were treated to what the ‘easterners’ classify as ‘typical’—lots of slippery rocks, roots, and mud! The event was held in the small town of Labelle, Quebec, just minutes from the landmark Mount Tremblant area.

Pro riders contested a 40-kilometre loop three times each day. Once again the Enduro format was to complete each loop within the designated time limit and contest an Extreme, Motocross and Enduro special test during that time. Corner Grass Racing Team (CGRT) shipped Shane Cuthbertson to Quebec for a continuation of his quest to take down the E3 class leaders aboard the almighty FE 570.

Having just recovered from Red Bull Romaniacs, Cuthbertson was feeling a bit rusty after three weeks off the bike, however he managed to take a second place finish for Day 1 (Round 5). Feeling much better for Day 2 (Round 6), the “Moose” ran into some stiff competition and took home third place on the day.

An ambitious racer

When asked about his performance, Cuthbertson commented that “the top five guys are really pushing hard and we all seem to be improving at the same rate. My times on Day 2 were much better and within seconds of the leader’s, however I had some crashes which affected my end result. I am confident that my speed is finally coming around—now I just have to keep the rubber side down!”

When asked about the Quebec round he had this to say: “It was so slippery and rough—this terrain just pounds you into submission. The organization was again top notch and these events are really gaining credibility with such great promoters.”

With his consistent finishes throughout the series, Cuthbertson now sits in fifth overall, heading into the final two rounds. The series continues September 19 and 20 for the final rounds (7 and 8) in Parry Sound, Ontario. Stay tuned for coverage of these events and any other exciting news as we know it.
